Kevan overplayed his hand by demanding Cersei stand trial at the Sept. The moment he became hand, he should have had the Lannister armies step in and deal with the faith militant.

Kevan would have been a FAR BETTER leader than Tywin. Tywin let Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion run around like spoilt idiots. Kevan, I think, knew this when he took charge and took down Cersei a dozen pegs after Tywin died. Kevan would have stopped the Lannisters from falling. Perfect balance of intelligence, pragmatic, and even tempered. Tywin let every slight and offence fuel his anger and delicate ego. Alas, Kevan was not to lead. A pity.
